How to program emotional progressive house.

How to program emotional progressive house music.

Learning to program is one thing. Programming beats for your daw is another thing. Remember you want to produce with no time to learn. You want to produce on your own terms. Maybe you want to learn as you go. Emotion This is where the fun begins. Lets say you want to produce happy trance or happy hardcore. Most of that music will have an happy progression always but most of the time up! Up in a upward promotion. Most likely it will have mostly Major chords. Why because when you go up on the scale it turns  sounds (the emotion) into a whole new world. It makes them sound happy. Try it yourself make a riff of 8 bars and make it go up and loop it and you will feel happy!

Emotion is the key

When you are programming progressive house or progressive trance make sure you produce with emotion. How to start with and create your own emotions. Simply put we all deal with issues from time to time. The real key here is to. Get emotional  with your programming it is easy.

Mix in some minor chords

The number one thing you want to do is mix melodic minor with a natural major and come up with a memorable melody to hook your listeners. The best way to do this is use chords like f minor , e minor and so forth and create a chord progression and mix in and shift to some major melodies to create tension. I have spoke about tension in some of my earlier blog posts so if you need some inspiration check out those earlier blog posts. When producing music the goal is to hook the listener to something that is memorable..When you mix major with minor you will get emotional results. Why because you are mixing consonant with dissonant chords so once people here them they will be amazed. Have a look at this video to show you what you can achieve and use in your progressive house tracks.

For quite a while I was into freestyle in the 80s. Then all of the sudden something came over me and I just fell in love with  techno for some reason and of course the progressive house/trance movement in the middle to late nineties. I used to be a clubkid I would go to all the clubs  from limelight, tunnel, sound factory, tequila Joes, loop lounge, shelter, temptations,Bahama mamas, lana lounge just to name a few as you can see I pretty much a club kid. I think I was the only guy in the club who was not high as I only went there for the music and to dance! Sure guys came up to me and asked me if I needed anything but ,I just said no! The music was my high Rea...

The truth is you’ve allready heard it millions ,countless times already . You just may not have been producing or composing or arranging at the time so it was not that clear to you. Every song you hear  today on the radio in the clubs at a concert utilizes a form of call and response. The question and the answer The most common one is the question ...
